I'm Jana. I've been sewing for 16 years and I teach and design patterns out of Belfair, Washington.

I'm an invited instructor at the Pacific Northwest Quilt & Fiber Arts Museum. I teach a monthly class series at the Belfair Salmon Center, and I run semi-private classes in my home studio and online cohorts.

I specialize in structured improv: freehand cutting held inside a traditional block. I work mostly with thrifted bedsheets and salvaged cloth, on a sea green Bernina from the 1960s that belonged to my Nana. I compose on a design wall.

I design and publish my own patterns as hand-drawn zines. Current work includes the Square Enough series, six patterns that each isolate one improv move, and the Sawtooth Star Tote.

Before quilting I earned a B.S. in Mathematics from Utah State University, did graduate coursework in computer science at Georgia Tech, and spent three years as a senior data analyst building KPI dashboards.
